Housing Strategy

The aim of this project is to address the changing demands for housing in the valley within the context of changing demographic trends, in particular looking at accommodation for young families and single person households.

Such a strategy may consider such things as:

• A proportion of housing to be made affordable and particularly targeted at young people to ensure a sustainable mix of age groups remain within the valley;

• Potential of mill redevelopments to provide housing of a mixture of tenures and affordability

• An element of housing for those with disabilities to allow them increased opportunity to live within such a location;

• An element of housing to be targeted at the elderly taking into account locational factors and accessibility;

• Residential design guidance / control. This part of the strategy will seek to provide clear guidance for any future building and create controls on the design and location of any new buildings to prevent any adverse impact on the landscape;

• Local Lettings Policy to allow local people to continue to live in the valley;

• Energy efficiency of aging housing stock;

• Redevelopment and refurbishment of existing housing stock to increase the life expectancy of the buildings and retain the historic fabric of the settlements.
